Our Sangha : The sangha is our community of mindfulness practitioners who support each other in practice. We welcome all sentient beings to practice with us.
On Friday evenings from 7:20 to 9:00, our English-speaking Sangha practices sitting meditation and walking meditation and discusses some aspect of Buddhism based on a reading. Typically, the Sangha is lead by Abbot Thich Dao Quang, however, Thay, (Vietnamese for Teacher), is sometimes unable to attend, in those instances we are lead by another member of the sangha.
Note: No experience is required to attend, nor are you required to forgo your own person spiritual beliefs. We welcome people of all faiths, races and persuasions to join us in the practice of mindfulness meditation.
Each Sunday, at 11:30 a.m. there is a service in Vietnamese, which includes chanting and a Dharma talk. Visitors who do not speak Vietnamese are always welcome, and if someone is available to translate the Dharma talk, they will. The service is followed by a vegetarian lunch.
The temple celebrates the Buddhist New Year, the Buddha's birthday, the day of filial piety, and other Buddhist holidays. Check the calendar for details.
Periodically, the temple holds retreats ranging from a single day to a week. From time to time, we also have days where we raise money by selling homemade Vietnamese vegetarian dishes, which can be eaten at the temple or taken home.
Check the calendar for details on these and other activities. Visitors to the temple are always welcome. Dress is casual but respectful. Shorts and t-shirts are allowed, but please be mindful of appropriate length. Visitors should remove their shoes before entering the Buddha Hall. No one passes a collection plate at the temple. Those wishing to support the temple can make a donation by cash or check at one of the donation boxes inside the temple or can send a check made out to Tam Bao Temple to 975 Monterrey Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
